What is WESA?
The West Elk Soccer Association (WESA) is competitive soccer association in the Gunnison Valley, primarily located in Crested Butte. We are a club of 175 players from U9-U19, with boys and girls teams at every age group. All of our teams participate in the Mountain Region League (MRL) and in varying tournaments across the state.
What is WESA's mission?
WESA is a not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting and fostering the development of soccer for youth and adults living in and visiting, the Gunnison Valley. We are dedicated to providing our participants with a fun, high-quality soccer experience that encourages sportsmanship and a love of the game through the development of the player, coach, referee, and team.
Is WESA a select club? Will my child need to tryout?
WESA is not a select club – kids of all levels and abilities may sign up to play. No tryout is required to play soccer for WESA.
Will there be select teams or non-traveling teams?
WESA always strives to provide every player within the club their level. Therefore we do split by ability within our teams at U12, U15, and U19 if we have more than one team. U10 is split as evenly as possible, this allows the love of the game to be promoted while also playing with friends at such a young age. A development team option is also provided at every level if players want to play, but do not want to travel and play in games.
Will the Development Team option be offered?
Yes. If your child cannot or does not want to commit to league travel, and/or has other obligations that prevent them from traveling or being available for games, then they can sign up to be on the Development Team. Development Team players practice with the team but are not put on a league team and are not allowed to play in league games. If a friendly game is scheduled during the season, they are allowed to play in those games. Development Team players pay a lower price than rostered kids.
What age groups play with WESA?
WESA has a U10, U12, U15, and U19 program throughout the year. During the summer WESA offers current U8's programming as they start to transition into U10 that following fall.
