About Us

History:

It was a 10-0 game against Montrose that prompted Ross Matlock and Jen Faivre to ask the question, “Should we take the next step; create a club that moves our soccer program from recreation-based, to a higher level of coaching and competition?"

In 2014, the West Elk Soccer Association was founded with the intention to keep soccer fun while raising the level of coaching and matching player ability with the right level of competition.

Mission:
The West Elk Soccer Association (WESA) fosters soccer development and provides a fun, high quality experience for youth and adults living in the Gunnison valley.

Vision Statement:
Through our work, we envision a community with a strong love of soccer that prioritizes sportsmanship, leadership, and skill development through investment in the player, coach, referee, and team. We envision players who embody a deep appreciation for soccer and develop lifelong skills such as leadership, teamwork, and responsibility to  carry with them in future endeavors.
